Pearl Jam, while performing at this past weekends Lollapalooza in Chicago had their show simulcast on the web in part on AT&T’s ‘blueroom’ section.
The problem: lyrics that were critical of the President were edited out. To no one’s surprise, the censorship shit storm has erupted and the usual buck passing has ensued:
(re: the company hired to handle the webcast) “Those lyrics in no way, shape or form, are something that should have been edited,”
“We regret that this happened and we’re upset. We’re working with our vendors to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”AT&T spokesman Michael Coe said.
Yeah because major corporations have a way of letting people go off and do shit under their name without micromanaging every last detail. Try again, dick lick. Pearl Jam responded:
“What happened to us this weekend was a wake up call, and it’s about something much bigger than the censorship of a rock band,” Pearl Jam said on its Web site.
Perhaps a bit melodramatic but not entirely off base. This is the kind of bullshit that would make me not want to play a festival ever again.
I’m mostly shocked that I’m posting about a band that is at least 10 years past their prime who are back in the spot light and haven’t brought up how thinking of thier glory days reminds me of days clumsily trying to ‘accidentally’ grope girls in high school on god awful dates and getting shut down miserably.
Ahhh…memories. Who wouldn’t miss that?
