Hell’s Kitchen star and world renowned chef, Gordon Ramsay, is bringing a US version of his latest reality series, Kitchen Nightmares* to US airwaves and is off to a rocky start. It seems one of the people at a restaurant he tries to turn around is accusing the show of setting him up and causing him to get fired by planting expired food and making a chair wobbly. Ramsay told Television Week Magazine:
“I would never-ever-ever dream of setting anything up,”
“I want to sleep at night. We were issued a writ because, God bless America, if the toilet paper is not thick enough and you come out with a rash on your arse (you’ll get sued).”
“Trying to say I set up a wobbly chair – this is supposed to be the most powerful nation in the world, not the most pathetic.”
All of this comes on the heels of his London eateries losing food award nominations to other restaurants for the first time in, well, forever.
I would like to believe him as I think Kitchen Nightmares is a decent reality show, but the LONG history of reality shows setting shit up (like The Hills which simply straight up cast actors and called it ‘reality’) is too much to simply ignore.
If they are going to set up the show, I hope they come up with better shit than wobbly chairs in the future though. I would go with putting a severed cow head on a plate of pasta ‘by accident’ and let the hilarity ensue.
*The UK version can be seen on BBC America–and despite my general detest for reality shows, is quite engaging *
