Hayden Panettiere took time on Thursday to frig herself some more on national TV about her ‘heroic’ attempt to save some whales and dolphins from being harvest in Japanese waters on Ellen. People reports (and there is a video there as well)
The NBC show “is about being a hero. And you know, it’s kinda rubbed off on me,” the 18-year-old actress said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “I don’t think if I was as recognizable in the public eye that it would have made as much of an impact.”
Panettiere took part in an anti-whaling protest in Japan last month with a group called Sea Shepherd. The activists paddled on surfboards to confront fishermen who slaughter dolphins for food but were driven back – and in a video shot by Sky News, Panettiere was seen weeping on the shore.
On Thursday, Panettiere said she was afraid of the fishermen, and of possible sharks in the water, until she saw the dolphins.
“Every ounce of fear disappeared just watching those animals,” she said. “They know exactly what is going to happen, and as soon as they felt our presence, and knew that we were coming in peace. … All we wanted to do was go and cut them out of [their enclosure], and we couldn’t.”
Degeneres, a self-proclaimed animal lover, told Panettiere, “I admire you and respect you and all the people who do that for a living for being able to witness it.”
Oh isn’t that wonderful? The ethnocentrists get to pat each other on the back about how good a job they do telling other cultures how they should be living.
You dove in a fucking ocean and swan a bit, Hayden. Oh and ‘P.S.’ every single dolphin you were there to save was chopped to bits and is probably being served in a Sushi place in Tokyo as we speak.
More ranting below if you wish.
Now I personally think whaling is despicable. I think it should be banned in US waters. However, if Japan wants to do it, go right ahead. If it doesn’t affect me, and it doesn’t, go right ahead. Even if every last on of those particular species go extinct; it will have no qualitative difference on my life. 99% of all species that have ever existed have gone extinct. It’s a natural order of life on earth. Every species will eventually become extinct. Including humans. Hopefully that happens long after I’ve checked out.
This reminds me of that movement a few years back to try to force muslim countries to not force women to cover their faces and to force African nations to end female circumcision. Both stances are ridiculous.
One need only look at how many muslim states think we are raising a bunch of immoral whores by letting women run around with their face uncovered. I personally disagree and don’t think such a thing should be allowed in the US, however, people like Britney and Paris don’t exactly provide great evidence that we are ‘right’; now do they? So as you can see it’s a matter of perspective. In that corner of the world they live in, covering up girls face’s works for them. If the surveys are accurate, it works for a lot of the women there as well. It’s what they know and how they grew up. Who’s to say who is right and wrong? It depends on which eyeglass you are peering through.
The female circumcision uproar was even more hilarious. There is no difference in practice between female circumcision and male circumcision. Both acts aim to remove skin from analogous structures on our reproductive systems to make them less sensitive to pleasure signals and thus, make us less likely to enjoy sex.
Most of the world doesn’t practice male circumcision by and large. The US is the last place where it’s practiced more often than not. (even now those numbers are dropping) Why shouldn’t everyone protest the US for an equally barbarous act? Exactly.
It’s just as stupid for us to protest people practicing female circumcision. You may not like it, and again, I don’t. However, it’s how they grew up. It’s what they know and what they believe and it has NO effect on the quality of your life. So shut your filthy fucking pie hole.
So Hayden, next time you get on your high and mighty high horse, remember that this is how the Japanese have lived forever. It works for them. You don’t have to live in Japan and deal with this directly, it’s none of your fucking business.
Oh and she throws in at the end of the interview that the meat is actually ‘toxic’ and she is trying to get them to realize it’s bad for them. I don’t know about you, but I see a lot of Japanese people here in LA and the overwhelming majority are in good shape and have relatives who are positively ancient. Their diets seem to be working for them. One needs to only look at Japan’s life expectancy to see they are similarly blessed.
So I guess they could give you a few pointers, Hayden. Stick to looking hot and think before you act.
