New Line cheif Bob Shaye is a ridiculous asshole. A simple Google search with his name and ‘lord of the rings’ or ‘peter jackson’ will reveal the saga that is the piece of shit doing everything possible to avoid paying money that he was CONTRACTUALLY OBLIGATED to pay out to Peter Jackson for the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Well they have settled their differences, (read: Shaye realized he was about to be hammered in court and paid up) and Jackson is on board for the prequel that will be 2 films released in 2010 & 2011.
Jackson will not direct but will be the lead man in the producer’s chair. It is hotly rumored that Sam Raimi will be at the helm. He has expressed interest in doing it as long as Jackson was involved and there is no one better to take the reigns of the film as Raimi is THE MAN.

Oh and Bob Shaye is still and asshole. He primarily did this to save his job. He has released a TON of bombs and is in jeopardy of getting the ax. However, by saving money by ending litigation and signing up a sure fire multi-billion dollar series of films, he just might have saved his job…unfortunately.
