WGA writer’s strike cost Los Angeles BILLIONS

A report from the chief economist on LA County assessed the damages from the strike. E! reports:

A report released Wednesday by Jack Kyser, the chief economist for the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp., has revealed that the three-month walkout by film and TV writers took a heavier toll on Tinseltown’s bottom line than predicted—$2.5 billion in lost show business.

Wow. That extra $1200/year was totally worth it for the 700-1000 active writers.

I ‘get’ wanting money from online streaming an improved home video residuals. However, the handling of this strike by making it adversarial a year before it began really fucked a lot of people. A lot of people I know who work shitty assistant jobs lost their jobs because of this. (oh and they don’t have unions to make sure they aren’t working 50 hours a week for $400 which we all do)

Maybe the writers, actors and directors should think a bit more about the people who work for them for fucking peanuts for half a second more. (and yes, the executives who were gung ho about ‘sticking it’ to the writers for their insolence should heed that advice as well)

But hey, who needs and extra $2.5 billion? It’s not like we are on the verge of recession or anything…ohhh….
